They are on top of your head.

Saturday night Chris and I stopped by Spec's, a North Beach bar which my former roommate Charlie used to haunt back in the day. It has quite an interesting history and is the closest thing to dive-y that I know of in that vicinity. Add in a nice mix of regulars plus a stellar bartender who refused--without being obsequious about it--to let us pay for our drinks and you have the perfect neighborhood watering hole.

Hello Kim,

Strange. Very daggum strange.
Friday night -- say 9pm, maybe -- I was having dinner with my girlfriend at Street - on Polk, near Broadway - when I saw you walk by with your sister and another woman. I mean, I wasn't sure it was you. And my girlfriend wasn't any help in that regard.

And I was a little drunk (if not a lot) and in the middle of a steak (grrr), so it took me an extra few seconds or two to push away from the table/take another bite and step out onto the sidewalk... and by that time you were gone... You were heading north.
I'm sorry I missed you.

While walking back to Alex's after dinner, also north, I looked for you inside the various bars and restaurants in that direction, but didn't see you; and still wasn't sure it had been you and/or your sis that I had seen.
So I emailed Jonathan this morning -- a semi-regular experience -- and told him of your apparition passing by my dinner window, and he then sent me your blog link...
And I told Dan B. about your blog link -- yes, we're both still here at bysex -- and then he sent me this blog entry!
Cosmic, comic, neither or both?

I hope you're doing well. I'm still getting by. I'm in Nob Hill now, in a studio not much bigger than my room in North Beach. It's not nearly as warm as the NB flat, nor wacky.

Email me at bysex. Let me know how you're doing.

From one old haunt to another,
Charlie

And I've only had, oh, 4-5 jobs since then. Job-related ADD is what it must be.

i love specs

)if he is still there, i haven't been in a year) the old guy behind the bar has an english wife

because i am english too he has been known to thrust a policeman's helmet on my head and blow a whistle
(oops that sounds rude)

one time he told me he loves bovril. So the next time i went to england i got him some bovril.

I think he liked that - and agreed he'd never get me with the policeman's helmet again.

He wasn't there this time but I'll watch out for the helmet hazing...although I'm not english so I'm probably safe!
